From the Earth: Ceramic Art
April 24, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
The Ojai Valley Museum is pleased to present an original exhibition featuring more than 30 local ceramic artists. “From the Earth: Ceramic Art” is co-curated by artist and instructor Richard Flores and Kevin Wallace, director of the Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts.
It is not surprising that a large number of ceramic artists live and work in the Ojai valley. The earth beneath their feet is rich in clay. This exhibition features the diversity of expression ceramic artists use, a variety of forms, textures, colors and creative applications.
From more utilitarian forms such as teapots and bowls, to fanciful sculpture, this exhibition has something for every taste. “From the Earth” highlights the potential of ceramic as an artistic medium.
In addition to a wide range of work from contemporary ceramic artists, historical work made in the valley is also included. Ceramic items by Beatrice Wood, Vivika and Otto Heino, and Frank Noyes give historical context to the work currently being made in the valley.
The exhibition will be open beginning the evening of February 15, 2019 from 5:30 to 7:30pm as part of the regular monthly event, Third Fridays in Ojai. It is a free event. Other Ojai merchants and galleries are also open for Third Friday.
“From the Earth” will be on view through April 28, 2019.
The Ojai Valley Museum is located at 130 W. Ojai Avenue in Ojai. Free parking is available behind the museum, off Blanche Street. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday noon to 4 pm. Group or school tours available by appointment.
