Ojai’s Underground Exchange, a dance studio by day and performance art venue by night, will host Ojai’s Catalyst Players, a local theater troupe, for six performances of “All In the Timing,” a collection of four-one act comedic plays by American playwright David Ives. The short plays are all comedies (or comedy-dramas), focused primarily on language and wordplay, existentialism and the complications of romantic relationships.
“I first became aware of ‘All in the Timing,’ David Ives’ brilliantly funny anthology of one-act plays, nearly 20 years ago when I was asked to perform one of the roles. I found the piece so hysterically funny that I could barely hold the script in my hands while learning the lines,” said Steve Grumette, a Catalyst Players member and director of the production. “Since that time, I have been involved with no fewer than five separate productions of the show, and find that my enjoyment in bringing them to the stage has increased with each successive outing.”
“As a venue predominantly used for music and dance, we’ve just recently tapped into the local theater scene,” said Cassidy Linder, who co-manages the Underground Exchange. “We are thrilled to bring a revered play full of laughter to our stage for a two-weekend run.”
“‘All in the Timing’ asks the audience and performers to release themselves into an intelligent world of delight,” said cast member Daniel Ruark. “Bring your wits and prepare to laugh ‘til it hurts!”
Performances Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
